60 PLUS AND FEARLESS

Welcome back to 60plus and Fearless. It’s been awhile since I posted on the site and its not because there wasn’t anything interesting going on to write.

This time my blogs will contain a little more than our travel experiences. I plan to add other interest such as recipes, herbal remedies, travel hints, my opinions on certain topics and whatever is on my mind for the day. Hope everyone will enjoy reading.

Let’s get started.

We have continued to live some type of nomadic life compared to others we know and care about. This seems to fit for us even when others either don’t understand or perhaps a little envious.

I’ll return later in another blog to give updates and fill in gaps over the past few years. For today, I will start with a whole new adventure.

Currently we are back in Mexico staying in Playa del Carmen for about a month. We arrived a few days ago and today is the first day I’m taking time to share some of the things we incurred to make the trip.

Lesson #1 here – – We arrives at our departure airport in Houston, Texas. Nowadays it seems check-in can be done at a kiosk located at the airline service desk. Its seems pretty easy. Just make sure you have your confirmation number handy and passports; all should go smoothly at that point. However, we did incur a small hiccup. My passport went through quick and easy, got all of my luggage tags and boarding pass. When my husband tried to get his, the scan wouldn’t accept his passport. When I purchased the tickets, I failed to add my his name exactly as is on the passport, which was I didn’t add the “Jr” to his name as it appears. You have to make sure that the passport and ticket match. It was an easy fix, the staff at the ticket counter quickly fixed the issue by printing out is his ticket and luggage tags.

The flight was good, it was approximately 2 hours, long enough for me to take a quick nap.

Landed in Cancun, disembarking the plane and going through immigrations was easy. Usual quick questions and off we were to get the luggage. It took a little while for the luggage to be put on the conveyer belt, but it was all there. Had to get a quick baggage check with the immigration police and off we went to catch the right with the transfer service I had made a month ago to take us to Playa.

Lesson #2 Our net little hiccup in traveling occurred as we let the terminal to meet up with our transportation to Playa del Carmen. The transfer car that I had reserved wasn’t anywhere to be found. Had an airport transportation supervisor help us and at that point we were told this company no longer had a contract with the airport. I quickly contacted the company and they were sorry for the inconvenience and would refund our money (which by the way, we got back the next day). Which then the next situation was how to get to Playa. The cost of taking a taxi from the airport to our destination was $120 and that’s one way. Solution – we knew that the ADO bus line was available. Quickly purchased 2 tickets for $24 on a very modern, comfortable bus. The ride takes about an hour, so again enough time to take another little nap. Happily, the bus station in Playa del Carmen is located on 5th Avenue, which happened to be a few blocks from the condo we are staying in for the month. This was close enough where we pulled out luggage and walked the remainder of the way. It turned out to be a win-win.

Quick take away – two margaritas purchased at the airport outside bar was $65.00. Holy crap – I couldn’t have purchased a whole bottle of Patron somewhere else. Oh Well – Live and Learn.

Happy Day to all —- Enjoy life — Drink an overpriced Margarita and savor the moment
